The practice of keeping a journal has been around for centuries ... with good reason!
... ancient scholars, politicians, scientists, writers have all done it ... and now you can too!
Keeping a journal can be life-changing and is now recommended as a way to:
- lower stress levels
- improve health
- lessen emotional pain
- enhance creativity
- encourage self discovery
Journaling is a tool for personal growth
Your journal is the story of your life. It is about you, what is going on for you each day, what has brought you to this point, and 'where to' from here. Your journal is just for you (unless you want to publish it like I did!). It is companion that does not judge you, nor does it place restrictions on what you confide. Your journal belongs to you.
US professor Dr. James Pennebaker has conducted research into the benefits of writing about difficult experiences and times in our lives, and he believes such writing can aid and enhance emotional healing and health. In fact, a joint study conducted by the University of Auckland and the University of Nottingham found that expressive writing (the kind we often do in our journals) can help wounds heal faster! Now that's interesting.
My first book, 'Welcome to the Amazon Club', was based on the journal I kept whilst undergoing treatment for breast cancer. I know that keeping a daily journal helped me get through.
We will discuss how regular journaling can help us to:
- express ourselves
- explore our present experience and life
- discover what really matters and why
- record stories that are important to us
- encourage self-discovery
- release our past
- enhance our powers of observation
- dig deep and reflect on our inner world
- make important life decisions
- realise that our lives are more interesting and amazing than we ever thought they were
- and more ...
In this workshop you will learn:
- how to get started
- how to be creative in your journaling
- how journaling can support emotional health and well being
- what to write about in your journal
- how to keep up the practice of journaling in daily life
All attendees will receive a free copy of my book 'Welcome to the Amazon Club' OR 'The Pink Party'. Attendance is limited to six writers so no matter where you are with journaling - maybe you have already started one or you're keen to have a go - you can be assured of working within a comfortable, enjoyable, and supportive group of like-minded people.
Tea and coffee provided. Please bring your lunch.
